MOBILE WELDING AMARILLO, TX
Amarillo is a cattle town on a freight highway, and both sides of that keep welders busy. Feedlot pens take a beating from thousands of head, grain elevators run steel around the clock, and the trucks on I-40 do not stop for a cracked crossmember. Alpha Mobile Welding TX coordinates on-site welding in Amarillo through partner welders who drive to the feedyard, the elevator, the shop or the house with engine-driven machines and the right consumables. Call 979-250-7486 or send photos through the form and a coordinator will scope the work and give you a price range before anyone rolls.
Same-day and winter-storm calls are subject to partner availability in Amarillo.
On-site welding
The Texas Panhandle feeds a large share of the nation’s cattle, and feedlot steel is working steel. Pen panels get bent by animals, bunk line pipe rusts where feed and water sit against it, squeeze chutes crack at hinge points and water trough stands rot out at the ground. None of it can be hauled to a shop while the pens are full. A mobile welder drives out, sets up beside the alley and repairs or replaces it in place, usually with stick rod because the wind is blowing.
Alpha does not have a shop, office or branch in Amarillo. We coordinate the job and an Amarillo-area partner welder performs it. You send photos, describe the item and give the location, and the coordinator confirms material, process and access and gives a price range. The partner then arrives with what that scope requires: 7018 and 6011 for pen pipe and chute steel, dual-shield flux-core for elevator and trailer plate, a spool gun and 5356 wire for aluminum, TIG for stainless.
In town the work shifts. Older neighborhoods near downtown and Wolflin need porch rails, stairs and driveway gates fixed. Trucking yards along I-40 and Loop 335 need trailer frames, landing gear and dock steel repaired between loads. Ranch properties toward Canyon and the Palo Duro rim need pipe fence, cattle guards and entry gates. Partners cover all of it.
Common repairs
What partners see most often between the feedyards, the elevators and I-40.
Cattle bend pen panels and push bunk line pipe off its posts. Partners straighten or replace rails, re-weld to posts and sleeve rusted sections so the pen is usable the same day.
Chute frames crack at head gate pivots and side panel hinges after a few seasons. Partners repair the frame, replace worn pins and re-hang gates so the chute works at processing time.
Trough stands and float guards rust out where water and manure sit. Partners cut out the rot, weld new stands and reinforce the rim so the trough stops leaking.
Stock trailer floors, gates and slat panels break loose, and grain hoppers split at the seams. Field repairs keep trucks moving between the yard, the elevator and the plant.
Van and flatbed trailers crack crossmembers and drop landing gear in yards along I-40 and Loop 335. Partners weld gussets and replace sections in the yard.
Porch rails, exterior stairs and driveway gates on older houses crack at posts and hinges under wind and ice. Partners repair them on site.

Why Alpha Welding
A coordinator who scopes the work and a partner who is ready for Panhandle conditions.
We confirm material, thickness and access from your photos so the partner brings the right rod, wire, gas and wind protection.
Amarillo partners work on pens, chutes and stock trailers regularly and understand that a feedyard cannot wait a week for a repair.
When ice or a blizzard shuts roads, we say so. Same-day service depends on availability and conditions, never a promise.
You get a range based on scope and travel up front. Trips toward Canyon, Dumas or Hereford are quoted with the job.
How it works
Four steps from first call to finished weld.
Call or send the form with photos, the item and the location. A feedyard pen number or a county road landmark is fine.
The coordinator confirms material, process and access and gives a price range. Engineering or inspection needs are flagged.
An Amarillo-area partner is matched to the job and arrives with the equipment and consumables that scope calls for.
The partner welds, checks the repair and leaves it ready to use. Photos are available if your operation or insurer needs them.
Local guide
Panhandle conditions change how a weld gets done. Here is how partners approach the common jobs.
Feedyard pipe is rarely clean. Manure, feed residue and years of scale have to be ground off before a weld will take, and the ground line of every post is where the rust is worst. Partners cut out rotten sections, sleeve new pipe over sound stubs and weld with 6011 for the root and 7018 for strength. Wind is constant, so stick and self-shielded flux-core are the default outdoors. On panels that cattle lean on, the partner adds a brace rather than just re-welding the old joint, since the old joint failed for a reason.
Amarillo winters bring ice, blizzards and steel that sits well below freezing. Welding cold steel without preheat invites cracking in the heat-affected zone, especially on thicker chute frames and trailer rails. Partners warm the joint with a torch to a safe working temperature before striking an arc and keep the weld from cooling too fast. Snow and ice are cleared from the joint, and on bad-road days the coordinator will tell you if the partner can safely reach the site at all.
Elevators along the rail lines and US-287 are dust environments, and grain dust is explosive. Partners do not light a torch until the hot work permit is signed, the area is cleaned, dust is suppressed and a fire watch is posted. Catwalk, handrail and spout bracket repairs are usually MIG or stick on mild steel, scheduled when the leg is down. Anything on a structural support follows the elevator’s engineering, and photos go in the file for the insurer.
Trucking yards around the I-40 and I-27 interchange and out along Loop 335 send a steady stream of trailer work: cracked crossmembers, torn landing gear brackets, broken door hinges and stock trailer slats pulled loose. Partners grind cracks out, drill the ends and weld with 7018 or dual-shield, then add a gusset plate on landing gear. A loaded trailer is supported before anything is cut. Main rail repairs follow a fleet or manufacturer spec, because the next stop may be Oklahoma City at highway speed.
Properties south toward Canyon and the Palo Duro rim run heavy pipe entry gates and cattle guards that take wind from every direction. Hinge welds crack, posts rotate in the ground and gates drag. Partners set longer posts in concrete, add a diagonal brace and weld hinges with a full wrap so the gate swings true for years. Cattle guards are rebuilt with new rails welded to the frame and set on a solid base.
Wind sites and oilfield yards around the Panhandle need brackets, handrails, skids, stairs and pipe supports repaired on location. Partners follow site safety rules, carry extinguishers and welding blankets and never weld on vessels or lines that have carried product without a proper clean-out and gas test. Anything structural or pressure-related is welded to a spec and documented with photos.
Send photos and the pen location. A coordinator will check partner availability and tell you honestly what can happen today.

FAQs
What Panhandle customers ask before booking a partner welder.
No. Alpha coordinates on-site welding and an Amarillo-area partner welder performs it. There is no Alpha shop, office or yard in Amarillo. One call reaches a coordinator who scopes the job, gives a range and dispatches a partner.
Yes. Pen, alley, chute, bunk line and trough repairs are among the most common calls. The partner needs the pen or alley cleared of animals, a yard contact and any biosecurity rules in advance. Work is done beside the pen with an engine-driven welder.
Yes, with preheat and the joint cleared of ice. Cold steel cracks without it. When a blizzard or ice storm closes roads, the coordinator will tell you whether the partner can reach you safely or whether the job waits a day.
Yes. Cracked head gate pivots, side panel hinges and frame rails are repaired, worn pins are replaced and gates re-hung. The partner checks alignment so the chute works smoothly at processing time instead of binding.
Yes. Floors, gates, slat panels, hopper seams, tongues and tandem hangers are field repaired in your yard. Aluminum stock trailers are welded with a spool gun and 5356 wire behind a windscreen.
Yes, under the elevator’s hot work rules. The partner waits for the permit, cleans the area, suppresses dust and keeps a fire watch. Catwalks, handrails, spout brackets and platform repairs are scheduled when the leg is down.
Sometimes. It depends on partner availability and weather, and we never guarantee it. Call early with photos and a location and the coordinator will tell you what is realistic.
Scope, material, access and travel set the price. The coordinator gives a range before dispatch. Small gate and rail repairs are the low end; trailer frame, equipment and structural jobs run higher because of time, preheat and consumables.
Yes. Partners build pipe fence, entry gates and cattle guards on ranch properties and acreage, with posts set for Panhandle wind. Material can come from the partner or from you.
Partners handle columns, canopies, stairs and railings on commercial buildings and older homes. Load-bearing repairs follow an engineer’s detail and are prepared for inspection when the city requires it.
